The Fifteen Days of Chinese New Year:
The Lunar New Year is celebrated over fifteen days, ending with the Lantern Festival on

the 15 day. Each day is designated as an important day to visit family or honor deities.
Additionally, each day celebrates the “birth date” for several earthly beings and life
sustaining crops by acknowledging their day of creation.

Day Before - New Years Eve, February 11, 2021
• A big family feast 團年飯 is traditionally held on New Year’s Eve. This dinner
often called the reunion dinner, where the whole family together.
First Day - New start to a New Year, Feb 12, 2021
• Celebrate with firecrackers and lion dance.
• Day of rest to visit your elders and celebrate with your
family
• Do’s and Don’ts on New Year’s day
o Do wear jade for good luck.
o Do wear red or pink, the color of luck, joy and happiness.
o Don’t wash your hair or the year’s good luck will be washed away.
o Don’t sweep the floors or good fortune well be swept away.
o Don’t use knives or scissors or prosperity will be cut away.
o Don’t say any bad words or gossip to ensure a year of peace.
o Don’t break anything to avoid seven years of bad luck.
o Don’t wear black or white, the color of funerals.
• This is the day to eat “Jai” or Buddha’s Delight, the vegetarian dish sometimes
made with up to 18 ingredients.
