On September 19th, the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project (CHCP) is
hosting a “Double Happiness” Anniversary Celebration. This is our special
invitation to you, to support CHCP’s mission and honor our community.
We hope that you can attend this important event to commemorate two
major milestones:
● 35th Anniversary of the Chinese American Historical Museum:
CHCP raised money to build and gift the Ng Sing Gung (Temple of
Five Gods) to the City of San Jose to respect and permanently
preserve the history of Santa Clara Valley’s early Chinese pioneers.
● 5th Anniversary of the City of San Jose’s Resolution of Apology:
presented by then Mayor Sam Liccardo and other elected officials on
Sept. 29, 2021, to Chinese American community leaders and
residents apologizing for the City’s role in acts of discrimination
against the Chinese immigrant community and its descendants.
Our “Double Happiness” theme reflects both the joy of community
celebration and the healing power of redress and reconciliation. This
dual-anniversary event also commemorates CHCP’s partnership with
San Jose to further CHCP’s mission to preserve, educate and promote
Chinese culture and Chinese American history throughout Santa Clara
Valley. We are happy to be joined by San Jose’s Mayor Matt Mahan and
California State Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens.
EVENT PROGRAM to include:
● Opening remarks from CHCP leadership and key public officials
● Lion and dragon dancing, performances by Chinese American artists
● Tours of the Chinese American Historical Museum
● Refreshments will be served
